YERBA BUENA GARDENS FESTIVAL AND YOUTH SPEAKS PRESENTS
“LIVING WORD FESTIVAL” WITH SPECIAL APPEARANCE BY
DJ QBERT, A DANCE BATTLE
AND MANY HIP-HOP LUMINARIES

(San Francisco, CA) – The 2007 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival and Youth Speaks announced the line-up for the Living Word Festival: Traditions in Transition, under the direction of Marc Bamuthi Joseph, on Friday, October 12 from 12:30 to 1:30pm at Yerba Buena Gardens in downtown San Francisco.  This free outdoor concert is a tribute to 30 years of hip-hop culture.  The event will feature a scratch set by DJ Qbert, one of the founding members of Invisbl Skratch Picklz and one of the most renowned DJs in the world.  There will be a 3-on-3 All Styles dance battle for $1,500 in prize money with musical selections DJ's Celksiii and Deeandroid.  Murals from the $500 Living World Festival Graffiti King/Queen contest will be on display throughout the Gardens. Confirmed participants for the afternoon include the Legendary GrandMaster Caz, GrandMixer DXT, Jorge "PopMaster Fabel" Pabon, Ise Lyfe, B-Boy Wicked, the TDK Graffitti Crew,  Jeff Chang, Kimberly N. Cooper, Weyland Southon, and Adisa Banjoko of the Hip Hop Chess Federation.

Developed and held annually since 2001, The Living Word Festival (LWF)
challenges contemporary urban artists to present groundbreaking,
interdisciplinary material. During the course of the festival, The
Living Word Project (LWP) showcases the flavor and vitality of Bay Area
artists and their international peers. LWP deepens these performances
and presentations with a commitment to youth education and
intergenerational discussion. It incites dialogue about the role of
literary performance in social transformation. In 2007, LWF runs from October 4 through November 3, and functions under the theme of "Traditions in Transition" and unites artists from around the country, and across discipline to represent the future of urban folkloric elements in America.

Yerba Buena Gardens is located at Mission Street between 3rd and 4th Street in San Francisco's SOMA District.  The Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, which takes place from May through October, features over 100 events, including classical and jazz concerts, opera, international music events, theater, dance, children's and family programs, visual art exhibits, educational programs and cultural events.
