The 2005 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival Presents
Puppets on the Rooftop
Saturdays in June, July & August - 12 noon & 1:30 pm
Children's Rooftop Garden FREE

12 May, 2005, San Francisco, CA. Saturdays at Yerba Buena Gardens are for kids, with puppet performances by audience favorites Caterpillar Puppets and Mascaritas Puppet Theatre. Caterpillar Puppets will perform their puppet show Saturdays on June 4, 11 & 18, July 2, and August 6, 13 & 20. The Mascaritas Puppet Theatre will perform Saturdays July 9, 16 & 23. There are two performances every Saturday: at 12 noon and 1:30 pm. All performances take place at the Children's Rooftop Garden.

The star of the Caterpillar Puppets show is a rainforest monster whom the audience must help sing peacefully to sleep. They'll also aid a baby orangutan puppet in playing his favorite copycat game. The Three Little Bla-bla-blas start off the show with a fresh version of the well-known pigs and wolf story.

Caterpillar Puppets, the creation of Joe & Ronna Leon, have been the "house" puppeteers for Marine World/Africa U.S.A., the California State Fair, and the San Francisco Symphony for the annual Deck the Halls show at Davies Symphony Hall.

Mascaritas Puppet Theatre performs pieces in English and Spanish. The Selfish Giant is the story of a grownup who learns the value of sharing and that "children are the most important beings in the world." The play is performed utilizing a combination of puppets and masks; borrowing elements from Greek, Kabuki, Classical, and comedia dell'arte theater traditions. Mascaritas is the creation of beloved puppeteer Norita Blum.

The Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, which takes place from May through October, features over 150 events, including classical and jazz concerts, opera, international music concerts, dance performances, family and children's programs, theater, visual arts, cultural festivals, and special events.

All performances and events are free and open to the public, drawing an audience of San Francisco and Bay Area residents, tourists, and convention attendees that numbers more than 100,000 each year.
