Yerba Buena Gardens Festival Presents
FREE lunchtime concerts Thursday Sept. 2, 16, 23 & 30
12:30 pm, Yerba Buena Gardens - Mission St. between 3rd & 4th Streets
SAN FRANCISCO, CA. August 5, 2004. On four Thursday afternoons in September, the 2004 Yerba Buena Gardens Festival will present a selection of the Bay Area's finest musical artists.
The schedule of performances is as follows: (subject to change)
Sept. 2 Alam Khan & Uttam Chakrabourty - "North Indian Classical Music" - Tabla maestro Uttam Chakrabourty and sarode maestro Alam Khan, son of Swara Samrat Ali Akbar Khan, will perform the classic music of North India.
Sept. 16 Dr. Loco and Friends - "A Tribute to Mexico" - On this Mexican Independence Day, Dr. Loco will play a rich melange of mestizo and mulatto styles in celebration of the diverse origins of his Mexican-American musical heritage.
Sept. 23 Cascada de Flores - "Waterfall of Flowers" - Cascada de Flores is a folkloric trio dedicated to the exploration, preservation and dissemination of Mexican and Cuban regional music and dance.
Sept. 30 The Marcus Shelby Septet - "Jazz on an Autumn Afternoon" - Bassist Marcus Shelby has performed throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, Canada and Mexico. He has worked with legendary jazz artists Billy Higgins, Eddie Harris, Joe Henderson, Pharoah Sanders, Billy Childs and Sir Roland Hannah among many others, and toured with Wynton Marsalis.
Linda Lucero, Interim Director of the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival said, "We are pleased to present this new series of FREE Thursday lunchtime concerts in September featuring some of the most talented musicians in the Bay Area."
